The competition for recruitment jobs across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland picked up substantially throughout the week of 12-18 May, according to the latest figures from Recruiter Jobs, the jobs and careers board for Recruiter magazine and recruiter.co.uk
The number of applications per job increased from the previous week by 127% in Scotland, 200% in Northern Ireland, and 348% in Wales.
The most popular searched for job function in Wales (20%) and Scotland (21%) was recruitment consultant. But compare this with Northern Ireland, and it seems applicants are searching for more senior roles, as area/branch/sector director was the most searched for term.
In terms of sector, a variety of industries come out on top when it relates to the type of recruitment jobs candidates are searching for.
In Scotland, healthcare (5.4%) is seeing the most job applications, followed by office/secretarial (5.4%) and public sector & local government (4.7%). In Wales, the majority of candidates are applying for jobs in recruitment-to-recruitment (4.7%), followed by finance/banking/insurance (4%) and HR/personnel (4%).
In Northern Ireland, finance/banking/insurance (6%) appeared to be where the majority of applicants were searching, closely followed by office/secretarial (6%) and construction (4.6%).
It’s interesting to note that the percentage of recruitment jobs available differs rather considerably to the number of jobs users are searching for.
In Scotland, sales have the largest share of recruitment jobs (14.3), followed by healthcare (11.9%), whilst in Wales, construction (11.1%) and engineering (11.1%) hold the largest share.
On a more discouraging note for recruiters, the total number of live jobs across the three regions decreased throughout the weekly period, falling by 10% in Scotland, 20% in Wales, and 50% in Northern Ireland.
